Ugly Duckling Ms. Maeng has released two character stills featuring Lee Sun-bin as Maeng Bo-ram, a passionate MZ-generation Korean-language teacher, according to media reports. The film opens in theaters nationwide on the 28th.

The mission comedy follows Maeng Bo-ram, who teaches students in a small provincial city before an administrative error brings her to the college entrance exam question-setting headquarters. Exam question-setting is classified as a Level 2 national secret in South Korea, and the headquarters is sealed for 40 days while the questions are prepared.

Inside the heavily guarded headquarters, Maeng Bo-ram struggles to produce “problem-free questions” free of typos and disputes. Surrounded by question-setters described as highly educated, highly credentialed and entrenched veterans, Maeng Bo-ram maintains sincere concern for students and firm convictions.

The released stills show Maeng Bo-ram as a fresh-faced, enthusiastic novice question-setter. Lee Sun-bin said she studied the character to convey someone who might seem a little frustrating at times but could also feel like the warmest and most just teacher to someone else.

Lee Sun-bin added that she hoped audiences would enjoy watching the film while cheering on Maeng Bo-ram as a teacher.
