Independent and short film platform MovieBloc is collaborating with TIFF to conduct the ‘TIFF Asian Student Film Conference Online Special Exhibition.’ This event will be held through the MovieBloc platform for two weeks, from October 12 to 25.
This special exhibition is an opportunity to re-showcase works that were screened in the corresponding section last year ahead of the opening of the 39th TIFF. The screening lineup consists of a total of 5 works from the Korean Academy of Film Arts and National Taiwan University of Arts. In particular, it includes works that received the Best Film Award and the Jury Special Prize among last year's invited works, allowing viewers to see the perspectives drawn by the next generation of creators in the Asian film industry.
Student films hold great significance in that they contain raw concerns and the spirit of the times that differ from established films. This online screening is expected to serve as an opportunity for the works of emerging directors to meet a wider audience by increasing the accessibility of student shorts that could previously only be experienced at the film festival site.
MovieBloc manager Kim Dong-seok stated, “Student films most honestly contain the concerns that this current generation is experiencing,” and added, “We hope that these stories that began in Tokyo will reach further through the online platform.” Following this special exhibition, MovieBloc plans to sequentially release the closing films of the 39th TIFF.
