Seocho Smart Youth Center hosts AI and rural volunteer camp in Yeoncheon County
The Seocho Smart Youth Center conducted the "Doran Doran Farming Hearts Camp" in Yeoncheon County, where 20 teenagers combined AI technology with rural volunteer work. The program aimed to help youth share their digital expertise with seniors and experience agricultural life firsthand.
The Seocho Smart Youth Center operated the smart volunteer program "Doran Doran Farming Hearts Camp" from October 10 to 11 in Yeoncheon County, Gyeonggi Province, with 20 participating teenagers. The program was designed to allow youth to utilize their familiar AI and digital capabilities for service while directly experiencing the work and life of rural communities.
At the Mujigae Garden Welfare Center in Yeoncheon County, the teenagers interacted with seniors through AI photo studio and AI music postcard activities. The initiative provided an opportunity for youth to learn methods of intergenerational communication by observing the reactions of others and explaining technology at an appropriate level. The Yeoncheon Youth AI Center supported the collaboration between local organizations by providing supplies for the smart experience activities.
During the rural volunteer portion of the schedule, participants assisted at an apple farm by removing weeds. Through this, the teenagers observed the process of agricultural production and the labor involved in farming, experiencing the meaning of cooperation through collective work. The program appears to have had a significant educational effect, moving beyond simple experience to foster an understanding of the local community and the lives of different generations.
Participating teenagers described the camp as "a trip that revealed the joy of volunteering" and "memories to cherish for a lifetime." Yoo Jae-young, director of the Seocho Smart Youth Center, stated, "The important meaning of this camp was for the youth to share technologies familiar to them with the local community and to understand different people and regions by directly experiencing the unfamiliar life of rural areas." He added, "We will continue to support various social participation activities so that youth can connect their strengths to society and grow into community members with empathy and responsibility."
