[Korea Social Welfare Journal] Reporter Kang Hyeon-gu=Park Myeong-su, Jeong Jun-ha, and Jung Hyung-don will reunite after a long time to appear in a program highlighting Baekbeom Kim Gu, a symbol of the Korean independence movement. The MBC special program, airing on August 26 at 9 PM, is a historical storytelling broadcast that follows Kim Gu's footsteps, retracing his life and introducing historical moments of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea.
This broadcast is planned to mark the 150th anniversary of Kim Gu's birth, coinciding with the year UNESCO officially recognized Kim Gu's values of culture and peace. Through a journey starting from Hyochang Park in Seoul and passing through Shanghai and Jiaxing in China, the program explores Kim Gu's life and the sites of the independence movement.
In particular, the reunion of the 'Infinite Challenge' members on a terrestrial television program after a long time is garnering significant interest. In addition to Park Myeong-su, Jeong Jun-ha, and Jung Hyung-don, history storyteller Choi Tae Sung and professor of history education Kim Jaewon will participate to deliver in-depth historical content.
Kim Gu's early life began at the age of 17 when he dreamed of a career in government service. However, he was frustrated by the corruption of the civil service examinations and began to walk a new path after encountering Donghak. Through the Donghak Peasant Movement, he also formed an In-Yun with An Jung-geun. The relationship with the patriot An Jung-geun, who assassinated Ito Hirobumi in Harbin in 1909, will also be covered in this program.
In 1919, Kim Gu crossed over to Shanghai and began his life in exile, leading the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea alongside figures such as An Chang-ho. In 1931, he organized the Korean Patriotic Corps and led the historic heroic actions of Lee Bong-chang and Yun Bong-gil.
The story of Yun Bong-gil is particularly moving. It is reported that Jung Hyung-don shed tears while reading Yun's letter. At that time, a massive bounty was placed on Kim Gu, forcing him to wander throughout China. Amidst this, the story of the families who protected Kim Gu is also included. Jung Hyung-don will meet the descendants of that family locally in China to hear the stories of that time directly.
In 1945, Kim Gu returned to his homeland after 27 years. He devoted great effort to relocating the remains of independence activists buried in foreign lands back to his homeland. Following his request, individuals such as Anarchist from Colony organized a remains recovery team to bring the remains of Yun Bong-gil, Lee Bong-chang, and Baek Jeong-gi back to the country.
Finally, on June 26, 1949, Kim Gu passed away at Gyeonggyojang. 'Balpumsa (History)' reflects on that day and examines the events that occurred at Gyeonggyojang. The dreams and life of Baekbeom Kim Gu, who started as Kim Chang-am in his childhood and became an iconic figure of the Republic of Korea, will be covered in detail through the program.
