Actor Lee Joo-seung will appear on an EBS1 special lecture on November 8 to discuss the values of learning and letting go. Drawing from his experience of once filming three dramas simultaneously, Lee will share how he learned to focus on one task at a time by letting go of greed.

Actor Lee Joo-seung will appear on a program designed for teenagers and young adults seeking their own paths outside the confines of school. The Lee Joo-seung episode of the EBS special lecture series "Special Lecture: To the Youth" is scheduled to air on EBS1 at 11:55 AM on November 8. During the broadcast, Lee will share the values of learning and letting go, drawing from his experiences as an actor who has expanded his career into screenwriting and directing. The program is structured to offer career-seeking youth insights into his personal choices, processes, and attitude toward life. Out of 1,135 entries submitted to a film festival, 46 films have passed the preliminary round to reach the finals, which Lee will judge alongside actor and director Ryu Hyun-kyung and programmer Jo Ji-hoon.

A path that began with Taekwondo in childhood

In the first part of the lecture, Lee discusses the meaning of learning gained through his journey of finding his way. According to records, he began practicing Taekwondo during his childhood. While Taekwondo taught him effort and humility, he realized it was not the right path for him and sought a new dream. Later, when an opportunity to appear in a feature film arose just before university entrance exams, he chose film over the more familiar academic path. This decision led to an award at the Busan International Film Festival and an invitation to the Berlin International Film Festival, serving as a major turning point in his acting career.

Reflecting on his experiences, he states that there are no fixed answers or bad choices in life. He also notes that meeting good teachers to learn life attitudes and making efforts to gradually resemble those he respects serve as the foundation for growth. EBS introduced the lecture as a way to convey the value of learning based on these experiences.

A turning point created by choosing a feature film

Lee's story is composed of a series of choices. At the time of his university entrance exams, he was presented with an opportunity to appear in a feature film and chose film over the familiar path. The original text explains that this choice led to an award at the Busan International Film Festival and an invitation to the Berlin International Film Festival. Based on these experiences, Lee says there are no bad choices in life and emphasizes the importance of diving in and learning through the process. His experiences will be conveyed to young people contemplating their career paths during the broadcast.

The subject of learning is also presented. Lee mentions that meeting good teachers to learn life attitudes and striving to resemble respected individuals provides the foundation for growth. However, according to the data, this lecture focuses on explaining the meaning of learning through actual experience rather than providing specific lessons. The broadcast introduction contains the content that he will share the path he has walked and the attitudes he gained in the process with young people. The original text stated that this episode covers not only his experiences as an actor but also his challenges as a screenwriter and director.

An attitude of letting go of greed

The second part continues with the story of letting go. Lee describes the process of learning how to focus on himself by letting go of the greed to achieve more as an actor. According to the data, he once filmed three dramas simultaneously. He experienced such busy times that he slept in his car and washed in saunas, but after immersing himself in everything, he realized he had lost himself and the energy to act. He says that since then, he has chosen a life of focusing entirely on one task rather than trying to fill himself with many things.

The lecture also includes his experience of winning a director survival program and donating the entire 100 million won prize. Through this experience, he conveys the importance of focusing on the process rather than greed for results. He also emphasizes that rather than struggling to eliminate anxiety, naturally acknowledging current anxiety is actually the way to escape it. The data noted that at this point, Lee will share a life attitude of focusing on what he has and gradually letting go of greed. The broadcast introduction organizes his thoughts through the two pillars of learning and letting go.

Serving as a film festival judge on the same day

On the same day as the broadcast, Lee is also named as a final judge for the Seongbuk Unbeatable Youth Film Festival. Seongbuk-gu Office and the Seongbuk Cultural Foundation are holding the 6th Seongbuk Unbeatable Youth Film Festival at the Arirang Cine Center's Arirang Indie Wave from November 5 to November 11. This year, 1,135 films were submitted, and 46 short films that passed the preliminaries have advanced to the finals. The final judging will involve director and actor Ryu Hyun-kyung, actor Lee Joo-seung, and programmer Jo Ji-hoon. Seongbuk-gu Office stated that they plan to have them judge the works of young filmmakers based on their respective experiences and expertise.

The film festival's slogan this year is "Shorts, Shot, Shoot." The words "Shorts" (referring to short films), "Shot" (the basic unit of film), and "Shoot" (moving thoughts and perspectives into video) capture the process of young filmmakers moving toward their dreams. On November 7 and 8, events such as the "Youth Rest Area" featuring rest area snacks, a "Goods Market" involving film distributors, and an "Outdoor Silent Screening" where films are viewed with wireless headphones will be held. "Actor Jang Yo-hoon Exhibition" and "Director Jo Hee-young Exhibition" are also arranged, and all screenings can be viewed for free. Lee Seung-ro, the head of the district office, stated that this film festival is a precious stage to support the dreams and passion of young filmmakers.

While the Seongbuk Unbeatable Youth Film Festival and the EBS lecture are different stages, Lee is tasked with telling stories to youth and filmmakers at both locations. The broadcast is scheduled for November 8 at 11:55 AM on EBS1, and the film festival runs from November 5 to November 11. The EBS "Special Lecture: To the Youth" was supported by FKI, Hana Financial Group, and the Korea Youth Counseling & Welfare Institute. It will also be broadcast on EBS 2TV at 12:40 PM on Saturdays and Sundays.
