Rookie group A2O LIGHT tops charts amid wave of girl group comebacks
The October music scene features a wave of new releases from popular girl groups including IVE and Nmixx, alongside a chart-topping debut by rookie group A2O LIGHT.
Rookie group A2O LIGHT reached number one on Melon’s ‘TOP100’ just 29 hours after releasing ‘NEON’ on October 13, as IVE, Nmixx, BabyMonster, and ILLIT prepare for a series of October releases.
The music industry will see a succession of new song releases and album launches from popular girl groups throughout October. According to media reports, IVE and Nmixx have already released new music and albums, while BabyMonster and ILLIT are set to release new works at the end of October. RESCENE is scheduled to make a comeback on the 3rd of next month with their 4th mini album, ‘PULSE’.
IVE released ‘Looks Can Kill’ on October 19. This is a pre-release track and the title song for the mini album of the same name scheduled for release on October 26. Media reports state the song interprets the group's existing confident image through a concept of female heroes. Nmixx released their 6th mini album, ‘Strange Muse’, on the same day. The album contains six songs, including the title track ‘Birthday Wish’, and tells a story of respecting different personalities and sharing inspiration set in the virtual world of ‘MIXXTOPIA’.
BabyMonster will release the digital single ‘Deserve’ on October 23. This is their first new song in four months following ‘Sugar Honey Ice Tea’ in June. According to media reports, instead of their usual intense performances and dynamic music, this track will highlight the members' delicate vocals. Yang Hyun-suk, general producer of YG Entertainment, explained, “It is a slow-tempo song, but it contains more intense energy than any song released so far.”
ILLIT, under BELIFT LAB under HYBE, will release their 5th mini album, ‘Break Even’, on October 26. RESCENE will present their 4th mini album, ‘PULSE’, on November 3. With the release schedules of these two groups following one another, the competition for new girl group songs is expected to continue from the end of October through early next month.
The chart performance of rookie group A2O LIGHT, introduced by former SM Entertainment general producer Lee Soo-man, has emerged as a variable in this competitive landscape. A2O LIGHT released their debut song ‘NEON’ on October 13. Media reports indicate that the song reached number one on Melon’s ‘TOP100’ just 29 hours after its release, and also claimed the top spots on Melon’s ‘Hot 100’, Bugs real-time charts, and Genie Music’s ‘TOP200’. The combination of the rookie group's chart achievements and the successive comebacks of established popular girl groups is expected to make the competition for music dominance intense.
