Republic of Korea Army Captain Oh Su-jin donates hair grown for 14 years to children with pediatric cancer

It was reported through military authorities on September 18 that Captain Oh Su-jin of the Republic of Korea Army 9th Infantry Division has donated hair she carefully grew for 14 years to children with pediatric cancer.

Captain Oh recently delivered 40cm of hair to the ‘Eomona (Hair Sharing Movement for Young Cancer Patients) Headquarters’. This donation is the seventh act of sharing practiced by Captain Oh since entering the ROTC in 2012.

The total amount of hair Captain Oh has donated so far reaches 280cm. Since at least 25cm or more of undamaged hair is required to manufacture wigs for pediatric cancer patients, Captain Oh has managed her hair without ever getting perms or dyeing it for 14 years for the purpose of donation.

Captain Oh stated that she began donating hair while contemplating more meaningful ways to use the hair she cut when she first entered the ROTC. She added that if it can be even a small source of strength for the young patients, that alone is meaningful enough.
