Korea Foundation Supports First Public Exhibition of RM's Private Collection
The Korea Foundation announced it is supporting the "RM x SFMOMA: Between You and Me" exhibition, which will be held at the SFMOMA in San Francisco from September 3 to February 7 of next year. This exhibition marks the first time artworks from BTS member RM's private collection will be displayed publicly.
According to media reports, the Korea Foundation (KF · Chairperson Song Gi-do) announced on September 2 that it will support the exhibition ‘RM x SFMOMA: Between You and Me,’ which will be held at the SFMOMA in San Francisco, United States, from September 3 until February 7 of next year. KF is the only domestic public institution sponsoring this exhibition.
This exhibition is an occasion to publicly reveal for the first time the artworks collected by BTS member RM at the museum. Approximately 190 pieces, including RM's collection and the SFMOMA collection, will be introduced. The works focus on Korean modern and contemporary art, covering the flow of Korean art from the 13th century to the contemporary era, and will also showcase works by artists from 14 countries, including the United States, Japan, and France.
Among the works collected by RM, one can encounter works by Korean modern and contemporary artists such as Chang Ucchin, Kim Yun-shin, Kwon Ok-yeon, Park Rehyun, Do Sang-bong, and Yun Hyong-keun. Many of these works have never been revealed to the American public. As part of the museum's collection, works by Whanki Kim and Nam June Paik, as well as Donald Judd, Yves Klein, Agnes Martin, Henri Matisse, Georgia O'Keeffe, and Mark Rothko, will be exhibited alongside the Korean works.
The exhibition consists of eight themes that cross eras and nationalities. A section will also be prepared to examine works by Korean artists such as Whanki Kim, Nam June Paik, and Yun Hyong-keun, centered around them. RM stated, “This exhibition contains various boundaries that exist between East and West, Korea and the United States, modern and contemporary, and the personal and the universal,” adding, “I hope this exhibition becomes a small but solid bridge for many people.”
Chairperson Song Gi-do stated, “I expect this new form of exhibition, involving RM and the SFMOMA, a major hub of world contemporary art, to present a multi-dimensional perspective on Korean culture,” and added, “In the future, we will continue to connect Korea and the world through culture and arts that anyone in the world can enjoy and empathize with.”
