EBS (CEO Kim Yu-yeol) has carefully selected 4 masterpiece movies that the whole family can enjoy together for the Chuseok holiday and will broadcast them on EBS 1TV from Friday, September 25, to Sunday, September 27. The lineup presents works of various genres, from classic works containing music and family love to suspenseful spy action, poignant love stories, and pleasant Korean-style mysteries.
On Friday, September 25, at 2:10 PM, the start of the Chuseok holiday, , considered a classic of musical films, will be broadcast. Set in Austria ahead of World War II, the film depicts the story of a novice nun, Maria, who becomes a governess for Captain von Trapp, a father of seven children. Through Maria, who brings the joy of music and love to children living under strict discipline, the film warmly portrays the meaning of family and the freedom of life. The film delivers emotion that transcends generations through the combination of beloved songs such as ‘The Sound Of Music’, ‘Do Re-Mi Song’, and ‘Edelweiss’ with the beautiful scenery of the Alps. It later established itself as a global masterpiece, winning five Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director.
On Saturday, September 26, at 11:05 PM, the spy action film , starring Matt Damon, who has recently received great love for appearing in 'The Odyssey', will be broadcast. The story follows Jason Bourne, who was living a quiet life in India with his lover Marie after the previous film , but finds himself being pursued by the CIA again due to an incident manipulated to involve him. Amidst Bourne's pursuit and action across Europe, the film adds depth to the action genre by depicting the character's inner struggle as he faces the violence he committed in the past and accepts responsibility. Director Paul Greengrass's characteristic raw and dynamic filming, fast editing, and the car chase scene crossing the streets of Moscow are representative highlights of the work.
On Sunday, September 27, at 1:30 PM, , starring Zhang Ziyi, will be broadcast. It is a story of a son living in the city returning to his hometown for his father's funeral, recalling the beautiful and poignant first love of his parents who lived as teachers their whole lives. The film captures the love between Zhao Di, who falls in love at first sight with a young teacher appointed to a rural village, and the teacher who accepts her heart, using delicate visual beauty that moves between black and white and color. In particular, the way the path she walked while waiting for her loved one and the path the teacher walked while teaching students for a lifetime are reconnected through the funeral procession conveys the meaning of the title 'The Road Home' even more deeply. It is also well known as Zhang Ziyi's debut work, featuring delicate acting that expresses emotions through gestures and eyes rather than words.
At 11:10 PM on the same day, , starring Kim Myung-min, Oh Dal-su, and Han Ji Min, will be broadcast. Set in the 16th year of King Jeongjo's reign, the film pleasantly depicts the story of Joseon's greatest detective stepping forward to solve a mysterious incident surrounding corruption in tribute payments. The detective, receiving a secret order from King Jeongjo, heads to the enemy territory with the meat seller Seo-pil to find the ladybug flower, a decisive clue to the case, where they encounter Merchant Han, who dominates the Joseon merchant group, and face a massive conspiracy. It provides unique fun by unraveling heavy historical events through the clumsy detective's investigation process and witty dialogue. Based on the novel 「The Secret of the Gate of the Virtuous Woman」 by bestselling author Kim Takhwan, it is a Korean-style detective film that combines historical subject matter set in the era of King Jeongjo with mystery and comedy.
