Kim Yong-gun unable to attend late Choi Bool-am's funeral due to son's upcoming wedding, Baek Il-seob reveals
Actor Baek Il-seob shared that Kim Yong-gun, who played father and son with the late Choi Bool-am in "Country Diaries," was unable to visit the funeral due to his son Ha Jung-woo's upcoming marriage.
After paying his respects at the funeral of the late Choi Bool-am at Asan Medical Center in Seoul on the 31st of last month, actor Baek Il-seob shared the reason why Kim Yong-gun—who played father and son with the deceased in "Country Diaries"—could not visit the funeral hall. Baek stated that he "told him not to come" because Kim Yong-gun's son, Ha Jung-woo, is scheduled to be married next month.
Ha Jung-woo is set to marry actress Cha Jung-won at a hotel in Seoul on December 13. There is a custom where individuals facing marriage or the families of the bride and groom avoid funeral halls due to the belief that it could drive away good fortune. Baek added, "Since the funeral procession is on Monday (November 2), Kim Yong-gun might feel concerned and may visit quietly before then."
Baek Il-seob, who noted that he used to meet Choi Bool-am once every one or two months for dinner and soju, expressed his sorrow, saying, "I never expected this," and "He should have lived to be over 90." In the MBC drama "Country Diaries," Kim Yong-gun played the role of Yong-jin, the eldest son of Chairman Kim.
Choi Bool-am passed away at a hospital in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, around 10:00 p.m. on the 29th of last month while receiving inpatient treatment. He was 87 years old. The funeral procession will take place at 7:40 a.m. on the 2nd. Following a funeral mass at 9:00 a.m. at Yeouido Catholic Church in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, presided over by Cardinal Yeom Soo-jung, the procession will move through ChildFund Korea to Donghwa Gyeongmo Park.
