Jeong Yeonwoo, who served as Miss Korea last year, expressed her stance regarding the recent plastic surgery controversies involving Miss Korea contestants through her SNS on the 28th.

As questions regarding whether she had undergone plastic surgery poured in, Jeong Yeonwoo provided a direct answer. She stated, “The thing I heard most while participating in Miss Korea was related to plastic surgery,” and added, “I have watched countless times how people easily hurt not only me but also my beloved colleagues with such rude and worthless words.” This comment comes in response to the growing plastic surgery suspicions surrounding Woo Seo-yoon, the daughter of former basketball player Woo Ji-Won, who was selected as this year's Miss Korea.

Jeong Yeonwoo explained, “Since Miss Korea is a competition with the nature of evaluating people, it is an inevitable area for the focus to be on appearance,” but added, “We stand on stage after undergoing various evaluations suited to the theme of the competition, such as private 1-on-1 interviews, presentations on current affairs and intelligence, self-introductions, and talent shows.” She continued, “The reality that plastic surgery becomes the biggest controversy every year feels bitter, as if it devalues the essence of the competition and the contestants who have gone through these efforts.”

Jeong Yeonwoo stated, “I am more curious as to why people are so interested in whether others have had plastic surgery. Does a person's value increase if they are a natural beauty and decrease if they are not?” She further declared, “A person's value is not something that can be arbitrarily assigned by someone, and it is certainly not determined by appearance.” While doing so, she mentioned “people who scrutinize others' faces one by one to wonder what has changed, people who are certain someone had plastic surgery without even making the effort to scrutinize, people who engage in rude words and actions toward others while trapped in their own narrow-minded thinking, and people who do not feel ashamed of it,” saying, “I only feel pity for the narrow vision of those who can only view others in such a way.”

Jeong Yeonwoo also gave a clear answer regarding her own plastic surgery. She said, “I haven't had plastic surgery, but I have had various procedures,” and added, “If you don't want to believe me, I don't particularly care.”
