K-pop formula changes after 17 years: The era of 'Dome Entry' for groups in their 1st to 3rd year of debut
The standard for K-pop success has shifted, with groups in their first three years of debut rapidly entering major overseas dome venues…
Overseas dome performances were once considered a high barrier to entry for K-pop artists, but recently, groups in their 1st to 3rd year of debut are rapidly entering these venues, establishing it as a measure of success. Seventeen years have passed since TVXQ became the first Korean idol to hold a solo concert at Tokyo Dome in 2009, and currently, the scale of the venue has become an indicator that proves the reality of a fandom.
According to media reports, RIIZE set a record for the shortest time for a boy group by entering Tokyo Dome just 2 years and 5 months after their debut, while TREASURE showed rapid growth by entering Kyocera Dome three times and successfully holding a concert at Bangkok Stadium. Girl groups are also expanding their territory across Asia, with (G)I-DLE becoming the first K-pop girl group to enter Taipei Dome. The status of K-pop, which is proven by the scale of concert venues beyond streaming numbers, continues to grow even now.
