Vacant Stores on Sharosu-gil Transformed into Exhibition Spaces: ‘New Life-like Art Radio Station’

The Gwanak Cultural Foundation's Singgeulbeonggeul Education Center has transformed vacant commercial spaces within the Sharosu-gil commercial district into exhibition spaces to hold a citizen-participatory exhibition. The exhibition continues from the 19th until October 1st.

The pop-up exhibition, titled ‘Gwanak Village Atelier Meeting Digital Season 3: New Life-like Art Radio Station,’ is the result of a community-based creative education program that has been selected for the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture's autonomous district cooperation-type culture and arts education support project for three consecutive years. This year's Season 3 was operated as a convergence culture and arts education program combining AI and digital art.

Participating residents engaged in creation for about two months starting last July, with the theme of Gwanak's daily life and memories. After exploring and collecting the sounds and spaces of daily life, they created interactive sound installation works through field recording, digital sound editing, and design.

The exhibition also unveiled photo books and media art works that were recorded through photos and text and then reconstructed using AI and digital technology. The exhibition is organized not only within the interior space of the education center but also utilizes vacant commercial spaces at 1st Floor, 50 Nambusunhwan-ro 230-gil, Gwanak-gu, allowing residents to encounter the works in living and commercial spaces.

The exhibition opening was held on the 19th, and participant docents, exhibition-linked experiential programs, and networking are also being operated. The linked program ‘My Repair Desk’ is a citizen-participatory experience inspired by the work desk of a radio station, where participants draw the day they look forward to through an emotion diary. This program collaborated with the Seoul National University Institute of Cultural Arts from the planning stage and will continue promotion in connection with the Seoul National University 80th Anniversary Arts Week (September 28th–October 2nd). An official from the Singgeulbeonggeul Education Center said, “‘New Life-like Art Radio Station’ is a culture and arts education program where residents use AI and digital technology to view their familiar daily lives and local area through a new lens and express them directly.”
