From Searching for Missing Persons to Subduing Buildings... Special Operations Dog Training Site
EBS will broadcast a special episode of "There Is No Such Thing as a Bad Dog" featuring the training of special operations dogs Inca and Drone. The program follows their missions in searching for missing persons, detecting explosives and drugs, and subduing suspects.
The training process of special operations dogs, which are deployed first to dangerous sites inaccessible to humans to find explosives and drugs, track the traces of fleeing suspects, or subdue criminals, will be revealed on broadcast. EBS will air the episode "Nothing is Impossible! The World of Special Operations Dogs" on October 10 at 10 PM on EBS 1TV ‘There Is No Such Thing as a Bad Dog’. Shepherd Inca and Drone, who are training for mission performance at the only private special operations dog training center in Korea, will appear. The two dogs search for clues that are difficult to find with only human eyes and noses, and conduct tracking and subduing training together with trainers and special forces members. The broadcast introduces cases of Drone being deployed to missing person search sites, Inca's training experience, and building search training.
From Explosive and Drug Detection to Tracking and Subduing
Special operations dogs perform missions such as detecting explosives at terror sites, finding drugs and hazardous substances, and tracking the traces of fleeing suspects. Depending on the situation, they also directly subdue criminals. EBS introduces that special operations dogs are actively deployed in counter-terrorism operations and various special mission sites overseas. On the other hand, it stated that the systematic operation and cultivation of special operations dogs in Korea are still in their infancy. This broadcast follows the search, tracking, and subduing processes of Inca and Drone, who are being trained at a domestic private training center.
Drone, who is introduced in the broadcast, has experience being deployed to actual missing person search sites. EBS reported that Drone discovered a missing person whom the police could not find for two days just 47 seconds after starting the search. In the search training, scenes are shown where they track human traces by scent not only on sandy beaches but also on rocks where footprints are hardly left. The process of finding traces of people who have entered and come out of seawater is also revealed. Searching using scent as a clue in environments with few visible footprints or traces is one pillar of the training to be introduced in the broadcast.
| Case | Time Required |
|---|---|
| Police missing person search | 2 days |
| Discovery after Drone's search | 47 seconds |
Training to Follow Invisible Scent Clues
According to EBS, Inca and Drone also use 'damage scent' generated when the ground is damaged and 'floating scent' floating on water to find human traces. Training continues to follow scents in places with different surfaces like sand or rocks, and searching for traces at the point where a person entered and came out of the water. The broadcast covers what kind of traces the dogs find and track, as well as the process where searching leads to subduing training. The training subjects are sturdy adult males, and Inca and Drone practice searching and subduing by setting up situations no different from real combat.
The mission of special operations dogs does not end with finding scents. The program shows together the ability to find clues that are easy to miss with only human eyes and noses, tracking by following the traces of suspects or criminals, and training to subdue targets. Inca and Drone continue to search according to instructions while working in harmony with their trainers. The search locations are presented as sandy beaches, rocks, and places where people have entered and come out of seawater. Through scenes of following scent traces in each location, the various missions and training contents performed by special operations dogs are conveyed.
Drone Who Found a Missing Person and Inca Training
The dogs training with the goal of becoming special operations dogs at the training center are Shepherd Inca and Drone. Among them, Drone was actually deployed to a missing person search site and discovered a missing person whom the police could not find for two days just 47 seconds after starting the search. After introducing this case, the broadcast verifies Drone's search capabilities in various environments. Training follows where they chase human traces with only scent on sandy beaches and rocks, and even find traces of people who have entered and come out of seawater. In addition to searching, Inca and Drone perform tracking and adult male subduing training.
After the training is finished, the broadcast also captures the two dogs acting cute in the arms of their trainers. EBS introduces Inca and Drone as operation partners and companion dogs, revealing both their high-intensity training processes and daily lives. Training scenes for performing special missions and the way they approach their trainers are connected within one program. The broadcast shows not only the abilities of the dogs engaging in searching and subduing but also their appearance after training is finished. It also examines what processes Inca and Drone go through in each training situation and how they work in harmony with their trainers.
Building Search Following Seol Ssaem's Training Experience
In the program, Seol Ssaem directly learns special operations dog training. Seol Ssaem, who usually educates problem dogs and teaches training methods to owners, this time works in harmony with Inca as a novice trainer. First, they learn basic obedience training, and then participate in search training. The broadcast shows the process where Seol Ssaem experiences up close Inca's appearance as it continues the search by finding traces according to instructions.
The next mission given to Drone is to search inside a building located in a remote area to find and subdue a hidden criminal. Drone is deployed to building search training together with former special forces members. The special forces members head toward the building after preparing, and Seol Ssaem watches the training on-site. EBS stated that the process of finding and subduing a criminal hidden inside the building proceeds as training that resembles an actual operation. The broadcast captures the process of whether Drone can find the criminal hidden deep inside the building and finish the training with the special forces members.
‘Nothing is Impossible! The World of Special Operations Dogs’ will be broadcast on EBS 1TV on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 10 PM. It can be rewatched on the EBS website. The program sequentially introduces Inca and Drone's search, tracking, and subduing training, Seol Ssaem's training experience, and the building search conducted with former special forces members.
