Omok, Janggi, and Alkkagi: 'UNPROGRAMMED' to be held on the 9th, transforming games into real-time sound
The interactive audiovisual performance 'UNPROGRAMMED' will be held on the 9th at Tilla Ground in Sangsu-dong, Seoul. The performance transforms the rules of games like Omok, Janggi, and Alkkagi into real-time sound and music through an experimental system.
A stage will be prepared where Omok, Janggi, and Alkkagi are transformed into music.
The interactive audiovisual performance 'UNPROGRAMMED' will be held at 5 PM on the 9th at Tilla Ground in Sangsu-dong, Seoul.
This work is an experimental performance that converts the rules of play and human choices into real-time sound.
On stage, two players proceed through games in the order of Omok, Janggi, and Alkkagi, and every action of placing, moving, and flicking pieces is immediately changed into rhythm, timbre, and musical structure.
Three creators who have explored sound, systems, and interaction will participate in this performance. Electronic music and sound artist Choi Jun-hyeok designs everything from sound generation to structural formation as a single system using Max/MSP and modular synthesizers. Son Tae-yang is in charge of building an interactive system that connects various media such as sound, visuals, and lighting in real time. Electronic musician Du In-gyeong deals with the improvisation and contingency arising from play and interaction.
The performance creates different music at every moment through human intuition, strategy, contingency, and mistakes intervening within a precisely designed system, promising a one-time play that cannot reproduce the same sound again.
