Seoul Donhwamun Gugak Center will host the ‘2026 Yeoyujak Concert’ for two days from September 24 to 25 at the Gugak Madang, an outdoor space, during the Chuseok holiday.
The Yeoyujak Concert is an outdoor performance designed to allow people to comfortably enjoy Korean music amidst the autumn mood and Chuseok atmosphere. Taking advantage of the characteristics of Gugak Madang, where audiences can freely stay on the grass to listen to music and rest, the program is structured to be easily accessible to various groups, including families, local residents, and foreign tourists.
On the first day, the 24th, the string ensemble ‘Samhyeon,’ consisting of gayageum, geomungo, and pipa, will take the stage. Inspired by the Samhyeonsamjuk of the Unified Silla period, this team presents performances that reinterpret the unique tones of the three instruments with a modern sensibility. On the second day, the 25th, the wind band ‘Piri Band Jeokeul,’ composed entirely of traditional wind instruments, will take over the stage and is expected to convey another charm of Gugak through powerful and lively performances.
Along with the performances, traditional play experiences will also be operated. Following the performances on the 24th and 25th, traditional play experience programs are prepared for the 26th and 27th, meaning the Gugak Madang will operate for four days as a space where performances, play, and relaxation harmonize. For citizens wishing to take a light outing within the city during the short holiday, it is expected to be an opportunity to encounter traditional culture without special travel.
An official from Seoul Donhwamun Gugak Center stated, “We have prepared a time where you can comfortably stay in the city with family and friends while enjoying Gugak,” and added, “We hope it will be a time to share the leisure of Hangawi along with the exciting stages presented by Samhyeon and Piri Band Jeokeul.”
Meanwhile, Seoul Donhwamun Gugak Center is a specialized Gugak performance venue that opened in 2016 to revive the traditional culture around Changdeokgung Palace; it features an indoor performance hall where traditional Hanok and modern architecture harmonize, as well as an outdoor Gugak Madang, and is currently commissioned and operated by Culture Bridge.
