EBS children's history animation "Korean History Figures with Deongi and Kwaengi" makes its debut with the 'King Sejong' episode

EBS will premiere its new children's history content for the AI era, "Korean History Figures with Deongi and Kwaengi," on September 28 at 6:30 PM on EBS1.

"Korean History Figures with Deongi and Kwaengi" is a history animation that explains the lives of major figures who brightened Korean history from Gojoseon to Joseon and the historical moments they created, tailored to a child's perspective. Silla clay figurines 'Deongi' and 'Kwaengi', which were on display in a museum, enter the scenes of history through time to meet historical figures directly and experience the moments of historical events we know right before their eyes.

Meeting viewers with a story covering the growth process of 'King Sejong'

The first protagonist of the historical journey taken with Deongi and Kwaengi is 'King Sejong', one of the most beloved figures in our history.

Rather than the achievements of King Sejong that we already know, the animation follows the growth process of the person who made those achievements, showing the image of the 'human King Sejong' that was hidden behind the 'great achievements'. It examines how the young prince Chungnyeong, who loved reading books, became a king, and why he created science for the people, expanded the borders, and even created a new writing system.

Deongi and Kwaengi, who woke up in the exhibition hall at night after visiting the museum, are watching the newly entered artifact 'Angbuilgu' in the Joseon gallery when they are suddenly caught in a time vortex. The two clay figurines fall into a Joseon palace and meet a boy. He is the prince, Chungnyeong, who loved books so much that he would skip meals and stay up all night reading. However, the person destined to become king at that time was not Chungnyeong. The person who should have inherited the throne was his older brother, Grand Prince Yangnyeong. How did a boy who was not destined to be king become the king of Joseon? "Korean History Figures with Deongi and Kwaengi" follows the process of Chungnyeong unexpectedly ascending to the throne and growing into a king step by step while agonizing before numerous choices and responsibilities.

One heart that penetrates King Sejong's many achievements, 'Aemin (Love for the People)'

Even after becoming king, King Sejong is not a perfect figure who knows all the answers. He fears the fact that a single decision of his can change the lives of the people, and sometimes finds his own judgment by thinking differently from his father, King Taejong. Finally, he reaches the question, "For whom does a king exist?" To that question, King Sejong finds the answer: 'the people'. King Sejong's representative achievements are connected by this one heart.

To solve the difficulties of drought and farming, he studied the skies and time of Joseon, and recognized the talent of Jang Yeong-sil regardless of social status. When the people in the northern regions suffered from invasions, he selected talented individuals to solve the border issues, which led to the expansion of the 4-gun and 6-jin. And facing the reality of people who were deceived by contracts because they could not read and could not express their intentions in writing even when they had grievances, King Sejong finally decided to create a new writing system. It is Hunminjeongeum.

Instead of listing King Sejong's many achievements one by one, the "King Sejong" episode of "Korean History Figures with Deengi and Kwaengi" follows the question, "Why did King Sejong make such choices?" It depicts the process of a young prince who knew nothing but books seeing the world, meeting the people, learning responsibility, and finally growing into a king who knows nothing but his people. We meet the 'human King Sejong' who existed before the great 'King Sejong' we knew.

The children's history animation "Korean History Figures with Deongi and Kwaengi" 'King Sejong' episode, which meets historical figures anew with AI technology, will be broadcast from Monday, September 28, to Friday, October 9, Monday to Friday at 6:30 PM on EBS1.
