Actor Heo Nam-jun and supporters HEOG have joined the support for the descendants of independence activist Choi Bong-seol.

HEOG announced on the 7th that they participated in the ‘National 8.15 Liberation (8,150 won) Fundraising Campaign for the Improvement of Independence Activist Choi Bong-seol's Burial Site’.

This sponsorship was conducted with the purpose of reflecting on the meaning of Liberation and encouraging every citizen to contribute a heart of 8,150 won.

Going beyond the symbolic amount of 8,150 won, members of supporters HEOG donated approximately 1.5 million won, participating in sharing to remember Choi Bong-seol and carry on his will.

Jeong Gyeong-won, Secretary General of the Korea History and Culture Institute, expressed gratitude, stating that the hearts of the fans supporting actor Heo Nam-jun have led to a meaningful sponsorship to remember independence activist Choi Bong-seol and protect his burial site. He also added that it is even more meaningful that actor Heo Nam-jun's supporters HEOG joined the fundraising campaign reflecting on the meaning of 8.15 Liberation. Choi Bong-seol is known as an independence activist who participated in the ‘150,000-won seizure incident’ carried out in 1920 during the Japanese colonial period to raise funds for the independence movement. Afterwards, he was forcibly relocated to Central Asia, settled in Kazakhstan to continue his life, and passed away in 1973, being buried there. The Korea History and Culture Institute is promoting a project to improve the burial site, which includes renovating the site and raising the lowered burial area, to pass on his name and the meaning of the independence movement to future generations.
