Korea and Mexico to Strengthen Content Co-production and Cultural Facility Cooperation
Korea and Mexico have decided to expand cooperation in the culture and tourism sectors following President Lee Jae Myung's state visit to Mexico.
On the occasion of President Lee Jae Myung's state visit to Mexico, Korea and Mexico have decided to expand cooperation in the fields of culture and tourism.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced that Minister Choi Hwi-young met with Claudia Curiel de Icaza, the Minister of Culture of Mexico, at the National Textile Museum in Mexico City, Mexico, on the 24th (local time) to discuss measures for cultural cooperation.
Based on a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for cultural cooperation, both sides decided to expand the scope of cooperation to include the joint creation and production of content, the establishment of popular music facilities, and joint talent development.
Minister Choi stated that he hopes to expand cooperation in the fields of culture, arts, and industry and to continue joint creation, production, and joint talent development. Minister Claudia Curiel de Icaza agreed on the need to strengthen cooperation in the fields of culture and sports and expressed expectations for the joint creation and production of films and television programs.
The two countries decided to form a working-level consultative body to discuss specific implementation plans as follow-up measures to the cultural MOU. J.Y. Park, co-chair of the Popular Culture Exchange Committee, explained that cooperation is needed to establish popular culture performance facilities, as there is high demand for K-pop performances in Mexico.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism also decided to sign an MOU for tourism cooperation with the Secretariat of Tourism of Mexico and expand human exchanges. Both countries plan to exchange best practices such as tourism policies, statistics, and market information, and cooperate in revitalizing regional tourism and sustainable tourism. According to Cheong Wa Dae, President Lee Jae Myung and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum signed 17 MOUs in various fields during their summit on the 24th.
