Ensemble La Philharmonica, centered around female members of the Vienna Philharmonic, will hold its first concert in Korea.
The concert promoter WCN Korea announced on the 13th that La Philharmonica will hold a concert in Korea on November 15 at the Seoul Arts Center Concert Hall in Seocho-gu, Seoul.
La Philharmonica is an ensemble founded in 2024, featuring a composition that harmoniously weaves the tones of string and woodwind instruments based on the authenticity of the orchestra. They will present a wide repertoire ranging from authentic Viennese classical music to film music and pop.
Participating in this stage are violinists Lara Kustrich and Adela Frasineanu-Morrison, violist Barbara Rodio, cellist Ursula Wex, clarinetist Andrea Götsch, bassoonist Sophie Dervaux, and double bassist Anna Gruchmann. The first part will begin with the overture to Johann Strauss II's operetta Die Fledermaus and will include performances such as Jean Françaix's Divertissement for bassoon and string quintet.
In the second part, they will perform Bobby McFerrin's Hoedown!, excerpts from John Williams' film music suite Memoirs of a Geisha, and Leonard Bernstein's symphonic dances from West Side Story. Actress Lee Young-ae will participate as a storyteller to connect the music and the audience. According to WCN Korea, Lee Young-ae expressed her intention to donate her talent with a joyful heart upon hearing the news of La Philharmonica's first concert in Korea. Lee Young-ae said, "As an actress, I want to be a guide that connects the music and the audience."
