The first installment of the ‘Sandai Festival (Geomundo Tourism Experience Group),’ which allows participants to experience the nature and local culture of Geomundo in Yeosu, will be held for two days from August 29 to 30 in the Geomundo area.

Prepared as part of the K-Tourism Island development project, this event will be conducted in a total of three installments throughout August and September, designed as a stay-type program where participants stay on the island to directly experience its charms. It was planned upon the proposal of Namdo Planning and Admin.

The program is structured so that participants can encounter both the marine landscape and the living culture of Geomundo. Participants can choose and enjoy one of several marine activities, such as freediving, haerujil (gathering seafood by hand), or fishing boat tours, and schedules for walking in nature through plogging and trekking have also been prepared. The ‘Sandai Learning Class,’ where participants learn the region's unique play culture, and ‘Sandai Night’ recreation, where people mingle together by the night sea, will also follow.

This event is drawing attention as it coincides with the ‘2026 Yeosu World Island Expo’ opening on September 5. In alignment with the opening period of the international event themed around islands, the second installment of the Sandai Festival will continue at the same location from September 5 to 6. Given its composition linking island tourism with a large-scale expo, it can also be viewed as a case study testing the sustainability of local tourism content.

The first installment is aimed at adults aged 19 and older, with preference given to individuals active on personal SNS related to travel and art. Participants are provided with round-trip ferry transportation, accommodation and meals, Geomundo experience classes, and participant kits. The recruitment for the third installment will be announced separately at a later date.

The event is hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Jeonnam Gwangju Integrated Special City, and Yeosu City.
