Seongju County Records Sell-out for September Pre-registrations with Specialized Night Tourism Content
Seongju County is successfully developing a small-city night tourism model by utilizing local history and nature rather than large-scale facility investments.
Seongju County in North Gyeongsang Province is achieving results with night tourism content that utilizes the region's unique history and nature rather than large-scale facility investments. Entering its third year after being selected as South Korea's first county-level specialized night tourism city in 2024, Seongju County appears to be nurturing a small-city night tourism model led by ‘Twinkle Seongju!’
The two night programs introduced this past September were both closed on the day of pre-registration. In the ‘Starlight History Walk’ held on September 12 around the Placenta Chambers of King Sejong's Princes, history instructor Choi Tae-sung participated to unfold the history of the placenta chambers and the story of King Danjong. Participants toured the site with commentators before listening to the lecture, receiving evaluations that the program was composed by adding storytelling to Seongju's unique historical resources.
On September 5 and 19, ‘Gayasan Night Trekking & Starlight Dessert Dining’ was also held at Gayasan Mountain. Night trekking along the Jeonggyeonmoju Trail was operated alongside dessert experiences, night picnics, and forest healing programs, while insect experiences and a forest kids' concert were also prepared. Seongju County plans to continue its night content in October with Seongbak Forest Night Cham-cnic, Korea Bam Bam Festa, and Seongbak Forest Night Walking. As the key lies in how to weave together local resources rather than flashy lighting, Seongju County's experiment is expected to serve as a reference case for other local governments.
Jeon Hwa-sik, the Governor of Seongju County, stated, “What is more important than large-scale infrastructure investment is how attractively we can showcase the resources the region possesses. The planning capability and quality of content accumulated over the past three years were proven by the streak of sell-outs in September, and in October, we will present even more diverse night tourism representing Seongju.”
