According to media reports, Tom Cruise has recorded his 13th visit to Korea for the film ‘Digger’. Following ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ in 2022, ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning’ in 2023, and ahead of ‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’ in 2025, he has visited Korea ahead of the release of his new work. After arriving on the morning of the 1st, he attended a press conference held at the Conrad Seoul in Yeouido and showed a finger heart pose to the press. Cruise said, “I am truly happy to come to Korea again. The weather is so nice today, and coming to Korea is a happy thing. Beyond 13 times, I want to visit Korea 30 more times in the future.”

‘Digger’, which is released on the 3rd, is a black comedy made with director Alejandro G. Inarritu. It tells the story of how a drilling accident caused by oil tycoon Digger, played by Tom Cruise, spreads into a global climate disaster, and how he struggles to become the savior of humanity amidst the catastrophe he caused. The work satirizes human selfishness and the climate crisis, and unlike his existing image centered on high-difficulty action, Cruise plays a character possessing both greed and audacity.

Cruise cited his trust in director Inarritu and the original scenario as the background for his decision to appear in the film. He stated, “As both an audience member and a producer, I always enjoy various genres. Director Inarritu is a great artist who will remain in film history, like Steven Spielberg and Stanley Kubrick, whom I have worked with. The Digger Rockwell in the script is a unique character unlike any I have seen in any other film, so I jumped into working with the master without hesitation.”

Regarding the perfection of the work and the production direction, he emphasized, “This work aimed for ‘another level’ in terms of cinematic perfection as well as the overall production. Such a work is a first in my film career. Such an original film is truly one of a kind.”

Regarding observations that this is an acting transformation intended with the Academy Awards in mind, he conveyed that he values the film production process and the audience more than winning awards. Cruise said, “Regardless of whether I win an award, the process of making a movie itself is a great privilege and luck to me, and I act only for the audience. I hope this work is remembered as a narrative that leaves a deep impression even after a long time, rather than just being a momentary topic of conversation.”
