UNICEF Child Friendly Cities Local Government Association Delivers Funds to Support Children's Education in Mongolia

The UNICEF Child Friendly Cities Local Government Association has delivered funds to UNICEF Korea to improve the educational environment for children in Mongolia. The funds delivered this time will be used for the ‘One Bag, One School’ project, which involves building schools in the Bag regions, an administrative unit in Mongolia.

Children in nomadic areas of Mongolia often have to live in dormitories, separated from their parents at a young age, in order to receive an education. Due to this, a significant number of children of elementary school entry age are giving up educational opportunities. This project aims to help children receive education close to their homes by creating schools using idle spaces.

The sight of local governments cooperating across borders to promote children's rights is being evaluated as a positive example that enhances the sense of solidarity in the international community. If such humanitarian support at the local government level continues in the future, it is expected to make a practical contribution to resolving educational inequality in Mongolia.

Yu Hui-tae, Chairman of the UNICEF Child Friendly Cities Local Government Association, stated, “All children have the right to learn and grow safely in an environment where they are with their families,” and added, “We hope this support will serve as a foundation for children in nomadic areas of Mongolia to nurture their dreams by the side of their parents.” Cho Jae-seong, Corporate Fundraising Manager at UNICEF Korea, remarked, “The humanitarian practices of local governments are providing great strength to the promotion of children's rights worldwide.”
