Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority to Officially Sponsor ‘Intimate Korea: 2026 Korean Independent Film Showcase in Hawaiʻi’ Starting September 25

The Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority will officially sponsor ‘Intimate Korea: 2026 Korean Independent Film Showcase in Hawaiʻi,’ which will be held for three days from September 25 to 27 at the Doris Duke Theatre within the Honolulu Museum of Art. This event is co-hosted by the Honolulu Museum of Art and Now Production, and holds deep significance as the first film festival to focus intensely on the Korean community at the Doris Duke Theatre. In particular, as it is scheduled to coincide with the Korean Chuseok holiday period, it is expected to serve as an opportunity to promote Korean culture to local audiences.

On the 25th, the first day of the film festival, ‘HoMA Night: Chuseok & Cinema,’ a Chuseok commemorative night cultural event, will be held throughout the museum from 5 PM to 8 PM. At this venue, traditional Korean culture experience programs and celebratory performances will follow, and from 8 PM, the opening film ‘Super Dining’ directed by Lee Yoon-jung will be screened. According to media reports, actress Ye Su-jeong will attend this film festival as a special guest to communicate directly with the Hawaiʻi audience.

On September 26, Ye Su-jeong will present a live reading performance through the special program ‘Aloha & Arirang,’ and on the 27th, she will participate in a Guest Visit (GV) following the screening of her starring work ‘People and Meat’ to share stories about the work. Sarah Fang, manager and programmer of the Doris Duke Theatre, expressed her joy in sharing stories containing diverse Korean perspectives with the Hawaiʻi audience and stated that it would be a meaningful cultural experience shared with the community.

The admission fee for the film festival is set at $15 for adults and $5 for youths aged 18 and under. For the special program ‘Aloha & Arirang,’ it is available for $25 for adults and $10 for those aged 18 and under. Currently, direct routes connecting Incheon and Honolulu are operated more than 16 times a week by Korean Air and Air Premia, supporting smooth travel.
