The Gangwon Foundation for Arts and Culture announced that the film 'Journey There', directed by Kim Jinyu, received the Audience Award at the 21st Paris Korean Film Festival held in Paris, France. This work was selected as a feature film production support project for the 2024 Gangwon Video Content Creation Support Program by the Gangwon Film Commission, receiving production cost support.

'Journey There' is a feature film by director Kim Jinyu, who is active in Gangneung, and has been screening since its release on October 28. Having confirmed the audience response at an overseas film festival, the film has demonstrated the potential for regional-based creative works to expand their reach beyond South Korea. As an instance of a work originating from a local region achieving success on the international stage, the significance of supporting video creation within the province is expected to be highlighted again in the future.

David Tredler, chief programmer of the 21st Paris Korean Film Festival, spoke of 'Journey There', saying, “As a film festival programmer, there are films that pierce the very center of one's heart. Films where, the moment you see them, you are certain, 'this is the one.' When introducing such a film to the audience, we hope that the emotion that took our breath away reaches the audience meeting this film for the first time in the same way. 'Journey There' was exactly such a film for us at the 21st Paris Korean Film Festival (FFCP). And the audience embraced this film as warmly as we did. Director Kim Jinyu's film is an elegant and deeply resonant work that speaks of the preciousness of savoring the present moment. It reminds us how precious the people by our side are, who become a part of our lives—even if they appeared suddenly from somewhere or stay for only a few moments in a long life.”

Director Kim Jinyu stated, “Continuing film creation activities in a local region has by no means been easy, but I was able to complete the work thanks to the production support from the Gangwon Film Commission. I ask for continued interest and support so that the Gangwon Film Commission can continue to be a reliable partner for local films, allowing filmmakers in the province to carry out their creative activities stably.” Shin Hyun-sang, CEO of the Gangwon Foundation for Arts and Culture, said, “I sincerely congratulate Director Kim Jinyu on this award. Being selected and invited to the 21st Paris Korean Film Festival as a work representing South Korea, followed by winning the Audience Award, is a meaningful achievement that widely promotes the excellence and competitiveness of Gangwon films. We will continue to provide generous support so that video creators in the province can fully demonstrate their creative capabilities and move toward wider stages.”
