The 18th Seoul International Architecture Film Festival Transitions to Online Screenings After Completing Offline Schedule

The 18th Seoul International Architecture Film Festival, hosted by the Korea Institute of Registered Architects, successfully concluded its offline schedule, which took place from the 4th to the 6th. Starting with the opening ceremony held at the Architecture Society Hall in Seocho-gu, Seoul, this film festival shared discourses on architecture, cities, and communities by screening 14 works from 12 countries at the Ewha Womans University Art House Momo.

At the opening ceremony, President Kim Jae-rok stated, “Architecture is a record that contains the values of daily life, cities, and eras,” adding, “I hope this film festival serves as an opportunity to view the spaces we encounter with a new perspective and to reconsider the essential meaning of architecture.” The opening film, ‘Process: Evolving Public Architecture, Kumamoto’ directed by Kim Soo-dong, was selected to meet the audience first. Experts evaluate this event as a meaningful attempt in that it helped citizens' understanding by expanding architecture beyond simple physical structures into social and cultural narratives.

To continue the enthusiasm of the offline events, the festival organizers will conduct online screenings until the 20th. Audiences can watch the works for free through the ‘Seoul International Architecture Film Festival’ channel on Naver TV. Executive Director Kim Yong-gak said, “We want to share architecture with citizens through the familiar language of film,” and expressed, “We hope more people will share the value of architecture through the online screenings.”
