Stray Kids' Bang Chan donates 100 million won for children affected by floods in Nepal

Bang Chan, a member of the group Stray Kids, has donated 100 million won for children affected by floods in Nepal. On September 19, UNICEF Korea announced that Bang Chan, a member of the UNICEF Honors Club, delivered 100 million won as an emergency relief fund for the Nepal region.

Bang Chan's donation will be fully utilized through UNICEF Nepal for emergency relief activities for children and families in the affected areas. The support funds will be used to improve drinking water and sanitation facilities, provide health and nutrition support, offer psychosocial support, and establish temporary learning spaces. Regarding this donation, Bang Chan expressed his wish to convey even a small amount of comfort to those going through exhausting and difficult times, and shared his hope that many people will regain their peaceful daily lives as soon as possible.

Bang Chan joined the UNICEF Honors Club last year by donating more than 100 million won in celebration of his birthday. Since then, he has consistently practiced sharing for children around the world. Heo Geum-ju, Secretary General of UNICEF Korea, expressed gratitude, stating that they will do their best to ensure the precious donation is promptly delivered to the affected children in Nepal so that the children can recover their safe daily lives.

Due to the flash floods that occurred in Nepal on August 26, approximately 84,000 victims were reported across 17 local municipalities in 6 regions. Among them, children accounted for approximately 32,000, and people with disabilities accounted for approximately 1,800. This disaster caused a significant blow to the survival and educational environment of children, with 50 water supply facilities and 20 schools being destroyed.

UNICEF is currently cooperating with the Government of Nepal to support the restoration of water supply facilities in the affected areas. Additionally, they are providing drinking water and sanitation supplies, nutritional therapeutic foods, and learning kits for students and teachers. Furthermore, they are conducting psychosocial support activities by deploying professional counselors for children and families suffering from psychological distress due to the floods.
