Kim Chang-hoon delivers powerful rock performance at Kkamang's debut concert
Kim Chang-hoon performed with the five-member band Kkamang at their first concert in Seoul, showcasing a powerful rock vocal style. As part of the Sanulrim 50th anniversary project, the band Skipjack is also set to release a nu-metal remake of "I Don't Know Why I'm Here" in November.
Kim Chang-hoon held the first concert for the band Kkamang on the 24th at Mpot Hall in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
Kkamang is a five-member group consisting of Sanulrim bassist and singer-songwriter Kim Chang-hoon, drummer Kim Seon, guitarist Jo I-min, bassist Jeong Ga, and pianist Yeo Ji-su.
With the exception of Kim Chang-hoon, all four other members are in their 30s.
On stage, Kim Chang-hoon produced a voice different from his era of singing poetry.
He would sing quietly before rasping his voice, and as songs reached their climax, he would elevate the atmosphere with shouting.
The performance included "Mountain Grandfather," "Reminiscence," "Monologue," and "What Should I Do," as well as "That Face, That Look," "This Joy," "Lingering Feeling," "White Moon," and "You Are Here."
As "What Should I Do" played during the latter half of the stage, the reaction from the audience grew even more intense.
This song is a representative work of Kim Chang-hoon and was performed by Sand Pebbles, who won the grand prize at the 1st MBC Campus Music Festival in 1977.
Meanwhile, as part of the Sanulrim 50th anniversary project, the band Skipjack will release a new remake single of "I Don't Know Why I'm Here" on November 6.
This song was the first track on Sanulrim's 13th album released in 1997, and Skipjack has reinterpreted it with a nu-metal based sound.
Sanulrim plans to continue a project through 2027, the 50th anniversary of their debut, where the band and its members will have 50 of their songs remade by junior musicians.
