In the program for youth and young adults who are stepping outside the fence of school to find their own paths, Lee Nak-jun, the original author of 『The Trauma Code』 and an otolaryngologist, will appear to share the numerous experiences of failure and challenge he has faced while living as both a doctor and a web novel author.
“The moment you acknowledge that failure is something that is bound to happen, it becomes easier to challenge new things.”
In Part 1, he tells the story of how he completed 『The Trauma Code』 through numerous successes and failures of various works. Lee Nak-jun, who failed after putting forward an ordinary protagonist reflecting himself in his first work and also experienced other trial and error while writing medical stories, which he knows best, says he found his own story by applying what he learned from failures to his next works every time he wrote a piece. In particular, he candidly shares the process of refining the protagonist's personality and abilities through several works to complete the character 'Baek Kang-hyuk', the protagonist of 『The Trauma Code』. Through his experience, Lee Nak-jun emphasizes that “one must clearly distinguish between what they want to do and what they can do.” Comparing what one wants to do to the 'moon' and what one can currently do to '6 pence', he advises young people that it is important to find a balance between the two and move forward step by step in the direction they desire.
“If you continue to dwell on misfortune, the misfortune grows larger in your heart.”
In Part 2, he reveals his experience of undergoing four surgeries due to a sudden retinal detachment. Lee Nak-jun, who suddenly lost half of his vision in one eye one day, was unable to recover his vision as before even after surgery. He says he composed himself by remembering that while it was a disease that was difficult to treat in the past, it is now possible to receive treatment and see at least partially. He notes that if one continues to dwell on things that cannot be changed as a misfortune, the misfortune in one's heart grows larger even if the actual situation does not change. Furthermore, he emphasizes that it is also important to find a 'password that works for me' to endure daily stress and difficult times. He suggests that learning even trivial tastes, such as what kind of food one likes or what one enjoys doing, can be the strength to recover daily life. Lee Nak-jun says he still periodically reflects on what he likes and what kind of dreams he desires, and advises young people to find their own answers in their current situation rather than blindly following the success of others.
The story of failure, challenge, and moving forward again even amidst unexpected misfortune, told by 『The Trauma Code』 original author Lee Nak-jun, can be met on September 27 (Sun) at 11:55 AM on EBS 1TV.
The program is supported by FKI, Hana Financial Group, and Korea Youth Counseling & Welfare Institute, and is broadcast every Sunday at 11:55 AM on EBS 1TV and Saturdays and Sundays at 12:40 PM on EBS 2TV.
