The musical 'William and the Williams of William' is set to begin its third season on December 8, 2026, at Daehangno TOM Hall 1. The production will run until February 28, 2027, with Boo Sae-rom joining as the new director. The work is a creative musical that adds imagination to a real-life forgery scandal surrounding an unpublished play by Shakespeare.
The cast features 10 actors playing three central characters: Won Jong-hwan, Kim Ji-hoon, and Park Yoo-deok will play William Samuel Ireland; Park Min-sung, Kim Ji-cheol, and Jo Hwan-ji will take on the role of the mysterious gentleman H; and Lee Jin-woo, Lee Se-heon, Park Sang-hyuk, and Kim Young-woong have been cast as the boy who created the forgeries, William Henry Ireland.
The story is based on an incident in 1796 London where the release of Shakespeare's unpublished play 'Vortigern' sparked a forgery controversy. It depicts the process by which Henry, seeking his father's recognition, fabricates Shakespearean relics and works, eventually standing trial. The play explores not only Henry's lies but also a society that ignores his confessions.
Through the craze surrounding the name Shakespeare, the work asks what stories people accept as truth. The central axis of this season is expected to be a composition that places the story of the individual who committed the forgery alongside the desires of a society that wants to believe it.
Director Boo Sae-rom, who is in charge of this season, is a director known for capturing the inner lives and emotional changes of characters on stage. The production runs for 100 minutes with no intermission.
The work was first unveiled as a highlight showcase in 2020 and was selected as a 'New Work of the Year' for the Arts Council Korea Performing Arts Creation Incubator in 2022. Following its premiere in 2023, it underwent a non-replica licensed performance in Japan and a domestic tour, and now enters its third season following a 2025 revival.
