In the SBS drama 'Doctor X', character Do Yun-sik joins a surgical team to perform a high-stakes operation on a pediatric cancer patient, marking a significant shift in his professional identity.
In the SBS drama 'Doctor X' aired on the 7th, Do Yun-sik joined Gye Su-jeong's surgical team to perform an unprecedented operation on a pediatric cancer patient who had previously been ordered to be discharged.
In the SBS Friday-Saturday drama 'Doctor X', the decision by Do Yun-sik, played by actor Kim Yeong-min, to join a surgery for a pediatric cancer patient has moved viewers. In the episode aired on the 7th, Do Yun-sik joined the surgical team led by Gye Su-jeong (Kim Ji-won), who was attempting an unprecedented surgical method, and the child's surgery was successfully completed.
Do Yun-sik had previously been skeptical of Gye Su-jeong's proposal to pursue a surgery that was nearly impossible. The patient in question had already been ordered to be discharged, as the main hospital had judged there was no hope. However, even in the conference hall where a vote regarding the resignation of residents was held, he could not shake the thought of the child's surgery and headed to the operating room, despite the potential for personal disadvantage.
After finishing the surgery, a tearful Do Yun-sik revealed his inner feelings, suggesting that while his profession is a doctor, he felt he had never truly lived as a real doctor. He admitted his own perceived incompetence, stating he had long avoided the weight of having saved a child's life, and expressed his overwhelming emotions by saying, "Today, I was a doctor."
Kim Yeong-min portrayed the inner conflict of Do Yun-sik, who wavers between realistic calculation and a sense of duty, through changes in his gaze, breathing, footsteps, and facial expressions. As the character, a realist skilled at navigating social circumstances, chooses the path his heart dictates, a sense of relatability is added to the character, and his eyes show tenderness as he checks on the young patient after the surgery.
'Doctor X' airs every Friday and Saturday at 9:50 PM.
