Doctor X episode 10 hits 20.2% peak rating during complex surgery
The 10th episode of the SBS Friday-Saturday drama 'Doctor X' reached a peak viewership rating of 20.2% according to Nielsen Korea.
The tenth episode of SBS drama 'Doctor X' aired on the 7th, reaching a peak viewership rating of 20.2% as eight doctors successfully performed a complex multi-organ tumor resection on an 8-year-old patient. The procedure's success was followed by legal threats from the patient's mother and disciplinary actions from the Magnolia Society.
The 10th episode of the SBS Friday-Saturday drama 'Doctor X' surpassed the 20% mark, recording a peak viewership rating of 20.2% according to Nielsen Korea. The rating for the nationwide and metropolitan areas was 17.7%.
In the broadcast on the 7th, eight doctors—including Gye Su-jeong (Kim Ji-won), Jang Hui-suk (Lee Jung-eun), Bu Seung-gwon (Son Hyun-joo), Park Tae-gyeong (Kim Woo-seok), Jo Won-jin (Lee Jin-hee), Do Yun-sik (Kim Yeong-min), Bae Heung-gon (Lee Seong-uk), and Kim Seong-jin (Heo Jun-seok)—successfully completed an "ex vivo multi-organ tumor resection and autotransplantation" for an 8-year-old pediatric patient, Lee Hyeon-a (Lee Chae-yu). The surgery required removing six organs outside the body to remove tumors before transplanting them back.
Bu Seung-gwon and Bae Heung-gon, who had left during a resident council vote, joined the operating room. As Gu Bon-pyeong (Choi Gwang-il) and the Magnolia Society pressured for the surgery to be halted, Bu Seung-gwon declared, "I will proceed with this surgery to the end by the authority of the director." Emergency medicine professor Kim Seong-jin joined at the last moment to finalize the procedure.
Following the surgery, the Magnolia Society raised issues regarding the risks of the operation, whether IRB approval was obtained, and the participation of external medical personnel, subsequently issuing disciplinary actions against the Guseo University Hospital medical staff and notifying Gye Su-jeong of her contract termination. In response, Lee Hyeon-a's mother (Moon Ye-won) declared she would sue the doctors as well as the main and branch hospitals and the foundation, prompting the Magnolia Society to suspend the disciplinary actions.
At the end of the broadcast, Park Tae-gyeong attempted to suffocate the sleeping Kim Seung-hyo with a pillow, but Gye Su-jeong intervened. Upon waking, Kim Seung-hyo said to Gye Su-jeong, "It has been a long time, Doctor X."
