Good Neighbors announced on the 27th that memorial donations from the family of the late actress Kim Su-mi have provided education and livelihood support to four children in crisis across South Korea. The funds, sourced from royalties of a book compiled from the actress's personal diaries, helped one aspiring swimmer win a bronze medal in a local competition.
Good Neighbors announced on the 27th that it has shared the results of a scholarship support project, conducted using memorial donations, with the bereaved family of the late actress Kim Su-mi to mark the second anniversary of her passing.
In October last year, the family of Kim Su-mi donated the royalties from a book compiled from the late actress's personal diaries to Good Neighbors. This was done to continue the legacy of sharing that the deceased practiced during her lifetime by looking after children and neighbors in need.
Over the past year, Good Neighbors used the donation to provide customized support in the fields of education, livelihood, and career development to four children from crisis families within South Korea. One child, whose family faced the burden of medical expenses and care due to illness, was able to continue preparing for further education. Another child, who dreams of becoming a swimmer, received support for training fees and swimming equipment, eventually winning a bronze medal in a local competition after continuing their training.
These cases of support demonstrate that customized assistance tailored to each child's situation can create the necessary conditions for them to continue their studies and career paths. A key feature of the project was addressing the specific difficulties of each household by looking at livelihood, education, and career needs simultaneously.
One child who received the scholarship wrote in a letter, "The scholarship became the courage and hope to overcome difficult times and move forward. I want to become a person who shares the help I received with others in the future." Jeon Mi-seon, Secretary General of Good Neighbors, stated, "Thanks to the precious sharing provided by the late actress Kim Su-mi and her family, children were able to grow up healthy and bright," adding that the organization will strive to ensure that memorial donations lead to practical support for neighbors in need.
